Observations: Latest Report: 300 million Children are Starving

by Y. Barak

"The World Food Program" is a special UN organization, which delivers food parcels to schools in developing countries. More than 12 million children in 54 countries throughout the world are dependant on this program and manage to stay alive because of it. However, according to an up-to-date report submitted by a spokesman of the World Food Program, 300 million children throughout the world still suffer from chronic hunger. About 170 million of them go to school every day on an empty stomach and do not eat anything throughout the day. The remaining 130 million children are not in any educational framework at all during the day.

Catherine Britini, head of the Program, stated, "Feeding and educating children is the key to reducing the gap between rich and poor."

In order to demonstrate the urgency of the Program, Britini quoted a special report of UNICEF, according to which 100 thousand Afghan children, for example, may have died last winter from malnutrition.
