A Wake-Up Call from Israel

You in America, we in Israel, are all acutely aware of the emergency situation we find ourselves in. When Torah leaders the world over issue a declaration that on erev Rosh Chodesh Nisan all Jews should fast and cry out to Hashem, this must alarm us. It is up to us to take their words to heart -- as well as to see them in their historical perspective.

Observations: A New Scientific Theory Seeks a Place in Secular Education Alongside Evolution

The latest general alternative to evolution in the US is something known as "the theory of intelligent design." It seems to be an approach that is more respected than was the earlier "Creationist" approach. This idea is certainly very far from the Torah truth, but it represents an interesting effort to try to leave a space for Divine influence in America's officially secular education.

Some two hundred years before the time of the Vilna Gaon, Rav S. Sirero, a contemporary of the Beis Yosef, writes about a goral following the method attributed in our time to the Vilna Gaon zt"l and now known as the Goral HaGra.
